Yes, payment for most major City services can be made by credit card, including utility services, ambulance runs, municipal court fines, and building permits. There is a 4% service fee for paying with a credit card, which is used to offset merchant fees paid to credit card companies on these transactions.

1. How do I pay my ambulance bill?

The billing and collection for ambulance services is done in the City's Finance Department, located at 100 S. Davis Street. Payment may be made in person, by mail, or by phone. We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards. We can also file claims with insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid if you provide your policy information to us. Contact the Ambulance Billing Clerk at (254) 933-5804 for more information.

The City of Belton has adopted the 2003 International Fire Code and also follows Life Safety Code 101.

3. How can I find out if a burn ban is in effect?

4. Do I need a permit to burn within the City?

If you live within the City limits it is necessary to obtain an Open Burn Permit. An application may be downloaded from our web site or obtained from the Fire Department, Station 2, 420 Sparta Rd. The permit must be submitted along with the $25.00 permit fee to the Fire Department's Secretary who will then set up an inspection date and time. Be advised that the burn area will have to be inspected before you are allowed to burn.

5. How do I obtain and pay for a permit?

The fire department uses a Universal Permit listing all permits on one form. Locate the particular permit you wish to submit, fill out that section only and submit permit along with payment to the the Fire Department Secretary. You may schedule a tour of the fire station for your group any time during active duty hours. It is best to call ahead to schedule a time and date. At this time the Belton Fire Department does not offer CPR or First Aid classes. You may contact other area fire departments, the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

The Belton Fire Department will host birthday parties on Saturday afternoons only. This program is designed for children 4 to 10 years old and is considered to be a fire prevention learning event. The completed contract should be sent to the attention of the Fire Department Secretary who will check date availability and schedule the party. 10. How do I find out if the Belton Fire Department is hiring firefighters?

The City of Belton is a civil service city in accordance with Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code. To fill vacant entry level fire positions applicants are required to pass a physical agility test, background investigation, an oral interview board, psychological examination and drug screening prior to any job offer. 11. How do I apply to be a volunteer firefighter with the Belton Volunteer Fire Department?

You may pick up an application at Fire Station II, 420 Sparta Rd. Your application will then be forwarded to the Volunteer Department and you will be contacted for further instruction.

12. How often should I check my smoke detector(s)?

Use the test button to test your smoke alarms monthly. The test feature tests all electronic functions and is safer than testing with controlled fire (matches, lighters, cigarettes). If necessary, replace batteries immediately. Make sure children know what your smoke alarm sounds like. If you have battery-powered smoke alarms, replace batteries at least twice a year. For example, replace batteries when the time changes from standard daylight savings each spring and again in the fall. "Change your clock, change your batteries", is a positive theme. Change your smoke alarms every 10 years. Smoke alarms become less sensitive over time. This is a joint recommendation by the National Fire Protection Association and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission.

All leaking or damaged fire hydrants should be reported to the Public Works Department at (254) 933-5823.

16. What should I do when I hear the outdoor warning sirens?

The outdoor warning system is used to notify residents and visitors of severe weather. The outdoor warning system is used "only" if there is immediate or imminent danger to the City. When you hear the sirens during severe weather conditions you should take shelter immediately.

17. Who should I call to inspect my fire extinguisher?

If your fire extinguisher(s) is serviced by a contracted company, you should notify the company listed on the tag. If your fire extinguisher was purchased from a retail store (Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Dept etc), it is only good for one year and will need to be replaced. If you purchase an extinguisher from a retail store, you must keep a copy of the receipt on file or attached to the extinguisher as proof of date purchaed.

1. Does the Library have public access computers?

Yes. Computers are available for patrons, with a time limit of one hour each day.

2. Is there a cost for using the library's public computers?

There is no charge to use the public computers unless the patron chooses to print. Printing charges are 20-cents a page for black and white, and 50-cents a page for documents that contain color.

3. Are patrons able to print from the library's public computers?

Yes! Printing charges are $0.20 a page for black and white copies, and $0.50 for a full page of color printing.

4. How do I obtain a library card? Is there a cost?

A new patron must bring in a photo ID and recent utility bill. We accept residents of Belton, Temple and Salado. We also accept patrons who work, attend school or bank in Belton, but they must fill out a postcard, which will then be mailed back to them. When the patron receives it, he or she has up to 30 days to return it with a photo ID to receive a library card. A replacement library card is $3.

5. Does the library send faxes for the public?

Yes, the library offers faxing services for the public. The price is 10-cents a page for local 254 numbers, 15-cents a page for 254 or 800 numbers that must be preceded by a 1, and 20-cents a page for long distance numbers.

6. Does the library have a Children's Storytime?

Yes!
The library holds Preschool Storytime on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. We also offer a six-week Summer Reading Program for preschool children, school-age children and teens. Call the library for details.

1. Can I have alcohol at my event in the park?

No. By parks ordinance, there is no alcohol allowed in any City park.

Yes, but there are a few rules. Pets are not allowed in organized athletic activity areas, excluding service animals or in the splash pad park areas. Animals must also be on a leash at all times.

3. Where can I take my baseball/softball team to practice?

We have two practice fields that are available. Continental Field is located at N. 14th & College St. and Griggs Field is at E. Avenue J & Fairway.

Lions Softball field at Harris Community Park is for recreational play and little league scrimmages only. Reservation is required, but there is no fee.

All other fields are for league play only.

4. Can I rent the splash pad or any of the facilities around it?

No. The facilities and splash pads are first come, first served and are FREE!
