Daytime Traffic on Loop 121 to be Reduced to Single Lane Next Week

road-work-151707_640 (1)Beginning on Monday, April 18, daytime traffic on Loop 121 in Belton will be impacted by a construction project that will reduce traffic flow to a single lane and require guidance of a pilot car. Daytime delays are anticipated throughout the entire five-day project period.

The construction will take place at the intersection of Loop 121 and W. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. (formerly 9th Ave.). Crews will perform roadwork on 1,200 feet to the south and 1,000 feet to the north of the intersection. The asphalt pavement will be milled, chip sealed, and overlaid with another layer of asphalt to facilitate the widening and reconditioning of the intersection.

The pavement work is being completed in advance of activating signal lights at the intersection. It is anticipated the lights will be activated in May. Prior to the activation of the lights message boards on Loop 121 will notify motorists of the change. In addition, the signal lights will flash yellow for at least 48 hours before becoming fully operational.

Please use caution and be patient in construction zones, and follow traffic control measures to ensure safety for fellow travelers and construction workers.

Please call the City of Belton City Engineer at (254) 933-5823 with any questions or concerns.
