Youth Advisory Commission Receives Lesson in Local History

Rev. Roscoe Harrison shared with the Belton Youth Advisory Commission on Monday what it was like going to school in Belton in the 1960s.

Rev. Harrison spoke with the students as part of their monthly meeting and in recognition of Black History Month. YAC meetings are held at the Harris Community Center, which in the 1960s was West Belton Harris High School, where Rev. Harrison was a student.

Among other things, students learned about the former configuration of the building and other former nearby buildings and heard stories about how the high quality staff at the school interacted with students to help them eventually develop into leaders in education, business, and other fields.

Rev. Harrison is a former journalist and former director of community affairs at Scott & White Healthcare.
