A groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and addition to the Belton Police Department, 711 E. 2nd Ave., is set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
The project includes an 8,343-square-foot expansion and renovation of the existing space. When complete the Police Department will be nearly 16,000 square feet.
The total cost for the project is $3.53 million. Most of the funding, $2.5 million, comes from Certificates of Obligation issued following a comprehensive assessment of capital needs in the City by a Capital Improvements Plan Committee in 2013. The Belton City Council approved and funded the CIP Committee recommendation in late 2013.
