A city's Insurance Service Office rating (ISO Rating) is a reflection of how well-equipped it is to suppress fires. The ISO, an independent private rating company, assigns cities Public Protection Classifications (PPC) on a scale of 1 to 10, with Class 1 representing superior protection and Class 10 indicating below minimum standards.
Insurance companies use the ISO Rating or PPC to set rates for policy holders. Generally, the lower the classification the lower the insurance premium. Check with your insurance company to verify it is crediting you with the appropriate ISO Rating.
