Construction Project to Impact Two City Parks

A $1.1 million sewer main construction project to replace a 10-inch clay pipe with 24-inch PVC pipe will impact two City parks along the Nolan Creek Hike & Bike Trail over the next six months.

The project will install 4,200 feet of new pipe near Nolan Creek from Main Street and Yettie Polk Park to just past the new pedestrian bridge north of Harris Community Park. All of the construction is scheduled to be completed in time for Belton's annual July 4th festivities.

The Hike & Bike Trail will remain open during construction, although short detours will be required at times. As a safety measure, the contractor will use metal barricades and orange fencing around the perimeter of the work, and trenches will be covered during non-working hours. Some of the trenches will reach depths of 15 feet, so the public is advised to use caution and obey posted signs.

The new pipe will serve a main growth area of downtown Belton. The Belton City Council approved the project after an analysis of the sewer lines in the area showed they were at or nearing capacity.

Once the new line is installed the old line will be abandoned and filled with low strength concrete.
