Application Period Open for Youth Police Academy

The Belton Police Department announces the 2017 recruiting drive for its Youth Police Academy (YPA). The YPA is for students who have completed the 5th through 7th grades. It is an adaptation of the Department’s Citizens Police Academy.

The YPA allows interested youth to experience what it is like to be a police officer. They participate in mock building searches, traffic stops, and investigate a mock crime scene, along with numerous other activities. For youth wanting to be more involved with the Police Department, this program can lead them to join our Police Explorer Post upon completion of middle school.

Youth who are interested in the program, and who live in the Belton area or attend Belton schools, may pick up an application at the front desk of the Belton Police Department or from any School Resource Officer. Applications are accepted from March 2, 2017 through May 1, 2017. Applicants must pass a background check before being accepted to the academy. We will host two separate academies this year (June 5–9 and June 12–16, from 9 a.m. to noon).
