Suspect in New Year's Day Shooting Arrested

BELTON, Texas – The suspect in an early morning New Year’s Day shooting in Belton was arrested by Round Rock Police on Saturday on two warrants related to the incident. Ricardo Mendoza, 23, of Belton, is awaiting transfer from Williamson County Jail to Bell County Jail.

Mendoza is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Deadly Conduct.

The Belton Police Department investigated a shooting that occurred near the 500 block of East 3rd Avenue at  about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1st, 2020. 


The victim is a 19-year-old-male.  He was shot twice in the roadway in front of a residence.  Neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area.

The victim was transported to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital where is currently being treated and is in stable condition.  The suspects have been identified. The case is currently being screened by the District Attorney’s Office. Formal charges are pending.
