Notice of Election

BELTON, Texas – The City of Belton's general municipal election to determine councilmember and mayor positions will be Saturday, May 2, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Harris Community Center, 401 N. Alexander, according to a posting by the city clerk's office today.

Early voting will take place at City Hall, 333 Water St., according to the following schedule:

  • April 20-24, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • April 27-28, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Two councilmember positions and the mayor position are open. Current Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Carpenter is running unopposed for mayor. Current Mayor Marion Grayson did not seek re-election after six years of service in the position. Three people are running for the two council positions:

  • Parks Board member Daniel Bucher
  • Councilmember Guy O'Banion
  • Cindy Black
Council candidates will appear on the ballot in the order listed above, which was determined in a drawing on Feb. 21.

Councilmembers serve two-year terms. They meet in regularly scheduled meetings twice a month, and each receives a $1 annual payment for his or her service. Visit our Elections Page for more information, including the 2020 Election Calendar.
 
City Council and mayor positions are determined through an at-large election process. Residents interested in serving as mayor or councilmember must register during the filing period and meet certain state and local qualifications. The filing period ended on Feb. 14.
