Van Til Named Interim Director of Planning

City Manager Sam Listi has named Grants and Special Projects Coordinator Bob Van Til as the Interim Director of Planning, effective October 2, following the resignation of current Director, Cheryl Maxwell. Ms. Maxwell has accepted a position with the City of Temple Planning Department. Her last day working for Belton will be Friday, Oct. 2.

“I am humbled and honored for the opportunity to serve in this way. My goal is to continue the good work of the Belton team in service to the community,” Mr. Van Til said.

Mr. Van Til has served in his position with the City of Belton for three years. Prior to his tenure in Belton, he served as Director of Development and Planning in Taylor from 2002-2015, and as Housing Development Coordinator for the Taylor Housing Authority from 2015-2017. Mr. Van Til is an AICP Certified Planner (American Institute of Certified Planners) with a BS in Sociology from Stephen F. Austin and an MA in Urban Affairs from UT Arlington.

“I have confidence Bob will serve capably in this position, and I appreciate his willingness to take on this responsibility alongside his grant obligations,” Listi said.

The search for Belton’s Director of Planning is under way and will be conducted in a timely manner.
