Today in Oklahoma City, OK, U.S. Marshals arrested Deon James Shamburger on a murder warrant related to a July 30 shooting in Belton.
Shamburger, 34, is currently confined in the Oklahoma County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Texas.
On Aug. 14, the Belton Police Department notified the public that a murder warrant had been issued for Shamburger in connection with the July 30 shooting death of 39-year-old Jamel Jones. Shamburger shot Jones in the torso following an argument between the two men.
Jones died at the scene, and Shamburger fled the area in a car.

The Belton Police Department has released the name of the man wanted in connection with the July 30 shooting death of 39-year-old Jamel Jones. A murder warrant has been issued for 34-year-old Deon Shamburger.

At about 3:11 p.m. on Friday, July 30, Shamburger shot Jones in the torso following a dispute between the two men in the 1100 block of Shady Lane. Shamburger fled the area in a car, and Jones died at the scene.

The name of the 39-year-old man who was shot and killed in the 1100 block of Shady Lane on Friday is Jamel Jones of Belton. He died after being shot once in the torso following a personal dispute with another man.
Police know the identity of the shooter and continue to work at locating him. The man fled the scene in a car, then later on foot. His name is not being released at this point in the investigation.

The Belton Police Department is investigating an incident in which a 39-year-old man was shot and killed today in the 1100 block of Shady Lane. The man was shot once in the torso following a dispute with another man.
The shooting suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, then later on foot. Police are still looking for him. The 911 call about the shooting was made at about 3:11 p.m.
The earlier information about the victim being transported to the hospital was incorrect.

The Belton Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred today in the 1100 block of Shady Lane. One person was injured and transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.
The 911 call about the shooting was made at about 3:11 p.m. Police are still looking for the suspect. We will update this page as more information becomes available.
