Police Investigating Hit-and-run Accident that Seriously Injured a 13-year-old Boy
Belton police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene of an accident on Friday night. The accident occurred at about 6:15 p.m. in the 2100 block of the S. I-35 service road. A 13-year-old boy was struck while riding his bike.

Weapon Allegation at Bhs9 Leads to Lockdown and Investigation
At around 9:20 a.m. today the Belton Police Department responded to an anonymous 9-1-1 call where the caller claimed that there was a person with a handgun at the Belton High School 9th Grade Center. The Belton PD communicated with Belton ISD and initiated hard lockdowns at Belton High School and Bhs9, and a soft lockdown at Sparta Elementary because of its proximity to these schools.

Changes Proposed for Convention and Visitors Bureau
The Belton City Council will consider two items at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 8, related to a restructuring of its Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) services. If the items are approved, the CVB would transition from a contracted service of the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce to a program managed as an in-house city function. The CVB would continue to operate out of the offices of the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce, according to the proposed agreement.

Belton City Council to Consider Name Proposal for New Park
At a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Belton City Council will consider a proposal to name a new park adjacent to South Belton Middle School. The proposed name of Jeff Hamilton Neighborhood Park came from a resident. It was unanimously approved by a Park Naming Committee. The Parks Board then finalized and approved the recommendation for consideration by the Council.

A tax rate of $0.6598 per $100 valuation has been proposed for adoption by the governing body of the City of Belton. This rate exceeds the lower of the effective or rollback tax rate, and state law requires that two public hearings be held by the governing body before adopting the proposed tax rate.
